Man says four men assaulted him

A 42-year-old man told police he was assaulted Sunday by four men who jumped out of a van.

The man said he was walking along Ohio Avenue about 5 p.m. when the van pulled to the corner of Thornton and Ohio avenues, four men jumped out and began coming toward him. He ran, but the men caught up to him, and one of them brandished a handgun.

The man told police he was kicked, stomped and beaten with the gun before the men got back into the van and drove away. He said he didn’t know the men and couldn’t describe what they were wearing.

Market robbed

The Z&J Market, 1006 Perkinswood Blvd. SE, was robbed at gunpoint by two men at 8:37 p.m. Sunday.

The men came into the store and pointed a handgun at two workers in the store, demanded money and took the money from the cash register. The suspects fled on foot south on Perkinswood toward Youngstown Road. Officers were unable to locate them.

Program canceled

VILLA MARIA, Pa.

Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center has canceled the Coffee and Contemplation program scheduled for today because of the weather.

The program will resume from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 7. Open to the public and held the first Tuesday of each month, the program offers a speaker and time for personal prayer and group interaction. For information, contact Dana Stiger at 330-964-8886.
