Cold to impact schools, courts and trains

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities in Pennsylvania expect some schools, courts and even trains to be affected by bitter cold weather.

In western Pennsylvania Allegheny County officials plan to open five warming centers today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help people cope with problems.

Amtrak also says that fewer trains will be running during the morning commute because of the cold and expected lighter volumes of travel. Acela Express and Northeast Regional service will be running with fewer trains.

Dozens of public and private schools have already announced closures, and U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh, Erie and Johnstown will be closed, too.

The state Department of Agriculture also cautions pet and livestock owners to be extra mindful of animals during cold weather.
