Lordstown police collect more than 80 pounds of prescription drugs

LORDSTOWN

The Lordstown Police Department collected 81.4 pounds of unwanted pharmaceuticals in the prescription drug drop box in the lobby of the Lordstown Police Department during the box’s first three months of operation, starting Oct. 1. The department received the box from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators.

The police department installed the box to “limit the misuse of drugs by children and teens who often get the drugs right from their family’s medicine cabinets,” said Lordstown Police Chief Brent Milhoan.

The box is accessible to the public 24 hours per day, 7 days per week at 1583 Salt Springs Road. Medications accepted include pills, capsules, patches, powders, vitamins, inhalers and pet meds. Keep drugs in original containers or in sealed plastic bags. Medications not accepted: liquids, needles, syringes, lancets, thermometers, IV bags, aerosol cans, hydrogen peroxide, empty containers, illegal drugs.
