Ohio State University goes tobacco-free starting Monday.

Students will return from winter break with a new set of rules in place on one of the nation’s most-populated college campuses.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that the new policy forbidding any tobacco use on university property will be enforced through friendly reminders from passers-by, not strict penalties for violators.

Teams of student and faculty volunteers have been assembled to roam the campus in two- and four-hour shifts seeking out smokers and asking them to stop.

The newspaper reports that thousands of informational cards also are being prepared for distribution.
