Brady leads Canfield to NEAC title

Canfield junior Connor Brady won the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 backstroke and helped the Cardinals win the 400 free relay en route to the team title on Saturday at the Northeast Aquatic Conference meet.

Brady, who was named the male swimmer of the meet, was also on the second-place 200 medley relay. Teammate Drew Bennett won the 500 freestyle, placed second in the 200 free and was on the 400 free relay and the third-place 200 free relay.

Canfield had 433 points in the eight-team meet while Wooster was second (425) and Warren Harding (299) third.

Junior Dylan Thirion won the 50 free and 100 free for the Raiders.

On the girls side, Boardman junior Brooke Bailey broke a school record and a meet record to help the Spartans place second behind Wooster, 440-363. GlenOak was third with 299 points.

Bailey swam a 5:18.25 in the 500 free to break her own school record (5:19.42) and swam a 1:06.67 in the 100 breaststroke to set a meet record. She won both events. Boardman junior Sarah Gonda won the 100 back in a school-record time (59.91), breaking her own record (1:00.92).

Gonda and Bailey joined seniors Jessica Hilk and Jordyn Markovitch to win the 200 medley relay in a meet-record time (1:51.66). Hilk, Markovitch and Bailey joined junior Amanda Moss to win the 200 free relay in a conference-record time (1:42.01).

Canfield’s third-place 200 medley relay team of Sarah Heaven, Theresa Mikolay, Mallory Allen and Olivia Williamson set a school record (1:52.33). Heaven also placed second in the 100 back in a school-record time (1:01.26).
