Coats, gloves, hats, blankets needed Sunday for Mon. giveaway

The Salvation Army will be accepting donations of new hats, gloves, coats and blankets from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at its facility at 270 Franklin Ave. S.E., after the morning worship service.

The items will be distributed starting at 9 a.m. Monday at the facility, while supplies last.

The organization has already given nearly 500 coats to children so far this year, with the help of Ronald McDonald House Charities, but wants to help others in need as the area braces for freezing temperatures forecast for early this week.
