Austintown man charged with string of thefts

AUSTINTOWN

A 19-year-old Austintown man is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here Monday on theft and other charges.

Police arrested Zachary Rovder of Rockwell Road on Thursday on warrants charging him with two counts of theft and one count of breaking and entering for three separate crimes that occurred between Dec. 17 and 19.

The first incident occurred on Marcia Drive. A woman told police someone entered her vehicle, possibly Dec. 17 or 18 and stole various items, including a credit card and a pair of spare keys for the vehicle. A Coach-brand purse also was taken.

The second offense occurred Dec. 18. The victim told police someone entered the home’s garage of the South Inglewood Drive home and entered the victim’s car. Items taken included a Coach purse, which contained several credit cards and $40.

A witness told police she went to start her car on South Inglewood Drive and saw a white male standing on the front porch. She questioned him, and he told her he was looking for his puppy. The witness told police she saw the man concealing a Coach purse.

The third incident occurred Dec. 19 on Dehoff Drive. A woman told police someone gained entry into her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway. A GPS and iPhone were taken from the vehicle.

Rovder is in the Mahoning County jail.
