Homicide ruling

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Coroner’s office said a man who died Monday after being shot in a North Side home the night before died of a single gunshot wound to the head. The death of Aldric Jones, 23, is being investigated as a homicide by police and the coroner’s office, a news release said. Jones died at St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was taken after the shooting late Sunday evening.

An autopsy on Jones was performed Thursday.

Weapons charges

WARREN

Keith McKenzie, 21, of 955 Highland Ave. SW, was charged with felony carrying a concealed weapon and misdemeanor discharging firearms in the city limits after police accused him of firing a gun just after midnight New Year’s Day.

A judge in Warren Municipal Court set bond at $6,000, and McKenzie pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could be sentenced to prison.

Police were called at 12:08 a.m. to the 1300 block of Robert Avenue Northwest for shots fired. They found McKenzie, who matched the description given by the 911 caller. He had a loaded handgun and was taken to the Trumbull County Jail.

Police also were called to the intersection of Atlantic Street and Genessee Avenue Northeast just before midnight, and they were called twice to Jefferson Street Southwest between midnight and 1 a.m. — all for shots fired. No arrests were made during those calls.

Mall kiosk robbed

Township police are looking for those responsible for taking thousands of dollars in merchandise from a Verizon Wireless kiosk at Southern Park Mall. A store employee reported to police Wednesday that someone had broken into the kiosk and removed several items. The stolen items include an Apple iPhone valued at $709.99; an HTC cellphone valued at $629.99; three Motorola cellphones with a combined value of $659.99; a Samsung cellphone valued at $709.99; another Samsung cellphone valued at $379.99; and an Apple iPad valued at $929.99.

Pleads not guilty

WARREN

Christian T. Lampkin, 23, of North River Road, entered a not-guilty plea Thursday in Warren Municipal Court to felony robbery of the Family Dollar, 378 Elm Road NE at 9:26 a.m. Wednesday.

Police were called to the store for a man who handed a robbery note to a clerk. No weapon was used.

Police located Lampkin nearby, and a clerk identified Lampkin as the robber. He is suspected of taking $117 in cash and a stick of deodorant.
