Chevy Cruze sales down in December, but up for 2013
YOUNGSTOWN — While sales of the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze dropped in December, the compact rounded out a solid year, as sales for 2013 increased by 4.4 percent from 2012.
The Cruze sold 18,162 units last month, down 14.5 percent from 21,230 units during the same period a year ago, according to figures released by General Motors today.
But sales for the year registered at 248,224 units, a 10,466 bump from 2012 sales.
The Cruze came in as Chevrolet’s second-best selling model, trailing only the Silverado pickup, which moved 480,418 units in 2013.
GM delivered a total of 230,157 vehicles in December, down six percent from a year ago. Retail and fleet sales were also down, falling six percent and nine percent, respectively.
However, like the Cruze, total GM sales figures were up on the year. Retail sales increased 11 percent in 2013, and total sales increased at a rate of seven percent compared to 2012.
