Northeast Ohio gas prices up 12 cents

YOUNGSTOWN

The average price of gas in Northeast Ohio jumped 12 cents to $3.40 this week, registering above the national average of $3.32 per gallon.

According to AAA East Central, motorists in every state are paying more for gas than they did a week ago, and Ohio is one of four states experiencing refinery issues to see a 20-cent spike in the past two weeks.

This year marks the fourth-consecutive year of record-breaking prices nationally heading into the new year.

Higher prices for crude oil have contributed to the higher retail prices of gas, AAA East Central said in a statement.

Niles was one city on the lower end of the price spectrum, coming in at an average of $3.36 per gallon on unleaded, self-service gasoline.
