A driver damaged an Austintown police cruiser Tuesday when she hit it on Mahoning Avenue.

The cruiser was making a traffic stop when the accident occurred just after 2 a.m.

Ashley Armour, 25, of Scioto Street in Youngs-town, hit the cruiser.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash and gave Armour a Breathalyzer test, which she failed. She was cited with operating a vehicle while impaired. She also received citations of marked-lanes and seat-belt violations.

Austintown Police Chief Bob Gavalier said the cruiser has more than $2,000 in estimated damage. The officer did say he had a back injury, but he will be able to work.

Armour was charged with an OVI in 2011 in Austintown. She pleaded guilty pursuant to a plea agreement, according to court records. She was fined $650 and ordered to spend 30 days in jail with 27 days suspended. In lieu of jail time or in addition to it, she was ordered to attend a driver impairment program and enter into six months, nonreporting community control.

Her license was suspended for six months. No court hearing is listed yet for her recent OVI charge.
