YSU’s Stafford 2nd in diving at Horizon

Youngstown State sophomore diver Bec Stafford placed second in the one-meter dive while sophomore Jana Janson set a school record in the 50-yard freestyle on the second day of competition at the Horizon League Championships at the Busby Natatorium.
Stafford posted a score of 294.50 in the finals to place second behind Oakland’s Tricia Grant who had a 303.55. YSU senior Tricia Vallinger placed eighth with a score of 223.90.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Janson posted a time of 23.91 in the finals to finish eighth. Earlier in the day, Janson swam a school-best time of 23.72 besting the mark established by Nishani Cicilson of 23.74.
To finish the evening, YSU had a time of 3:50.56 in the 400-yard medley relay. After the first two days of competition, the Penguins are in sixth place with a total of 127 points. Oakland leads the way with 319 points while Milwaukee is second with 291.
Roads to close Sunday for half-marathon

The following roads in Mill Creek MetroParks will be closed Sunday from approximately 6:30 a.m. until noon for the Youngstown Road Runners Club Mill Creek Distance Classic half-marathon: West Glacier Drive, West Drive, Bears Den Drive, New Cross Drive, Cross Drive, West Cohasset Drive, High Drive, Chestnut Hill Drive, East Park Drive, Valley Drive, East Glacier Drive, Memorial Hill Drive, and Robinson Hill Drive.

Struthers-Poland boys tickets only sold at door
POLAND
Tickets for the Division II boys basketball sectional game Saturday between Struthers and Poland can only be purchased at the door. Game time is 7 p.m.
Adult tickets are $6 and students will pay $4. The doors will open at 6. No passes will be accepted for this tournament game.
Joggin’ for Frogmen 5K is April 26 at Canfield
CANFIELD
The first Youngstown Joggin’ for Frogmen 5K race is scheduled April 26 at 8:30 a.m. at Canfield High. Joggin’ for Frogmen is proud to partner with One Team One Fight, an athletic endurance campaign raising funds for two primary partner organizations: the Navy SEAL Foundation and the Travis Manion Foundation.
Race registration for the 5k is $35 for adult civilians, $30 for adult Active Duty Military, and $15 for the Tadpole Trot (children 10 years old and younger). Registration will include custom finisher’s medals for all participants, chip timing and bibs, and a race t-shirt. Packet pick-ups will be held at Second Sole (755 Boardman-Canfield Road).
