Heavy Rescue Team conducts rescue training

The Poland Fire Department Heavy Rescue Team conducted a rescue training for its members by using the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club lake Feb. 9.

The team went directly to the lake, where members donned the proper equipment for the hazardous ice rescue training.

After laying out all equipment needed, the team proceeded out onto the ice. Normally a rescue would be from a person falling onto thin ice, but on this day, a chain saw was used to cut out a six by six foot by twelve inch thick slab of ice for the unit to apply their training skills.

One by one, each member took their turn in wearing the rescue suits to save the victim who had fallen through the ice.

The club is located at 6225 Quarry Road in Lowellville.
