Man crushed while dismantling obsolete press at GM
Staff report
LORDSTOWN
A contract laborer working to dismantle a piece of equipment outside of the General Motors Lordstown facility’s West metal center was injured at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“He was dismantling an obsolete press,” GM Lordstown spokesman Tom Mock said. Mock could not identify the man or the company he worked for and said he didn’t know how the accident occurred.
The press had been inside the plant and had been moved outside for disassembly, Mock said.
The Lordstown Police Department and Lordstown Fire Department are investigating, but no other agencies are involved at this time, Mock said.
The worker was taken to a local hospital, but Mock said he didn’t know which one.
Robert Morales, president of United Auto Workers Local 1714, said the injured man was initially attended to by members of the plant’s emergency response team, who told Morales and other workers he was “alert and responding.”
Morales said operations at the plant continued as usual.
after the incident, and he hadn’t heard from management concerning the accident.
