Boardman police booked a man accused of theft by deception from an incident that occurred in 2012.

John Blazo, 51, of Leighton Avenue, was arrested at Mahoning County Area Court here on the warrant pending from 2012.

Blazo is accused of charging a woman to re-shingle and re-side her home in September 2012, but never starting the project.

The woman told police she provided a partial payment of $10,300 to Blazo on Sept. 5, 2012.

The woman filed a police report Nov. 8, 2012, because work still was not underway on her home.

Guns stolen

BOARDMAN

A Boardman man told police multiple items, including guns, were taken from his Shelbourne Drive home between Monday and Tuesday.

Someone took an Olympic Arms AR-15 rifle, an AR-22 style rifle, a Remington 870 pump 12-gauge shotgun, a single-shot hinge action .410 Stanley shotgun, two laptops and tax information.

The man told police he woke up Tuesday to find his garage door open and the items missing.

The guns are valued at a total of $1,700.

Woman shoots self

BOARDMAN

Boardman police, fire and emergency personnel responded to a home on Carter Circle at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for a woman who accidentally shot herself in the leg.

The 24-year-old woman told police she was dusting when she dropped her husband’s .45 caliber semi-automatic Glock as she was moving it. She tried to catch the gun and grabbed it by the trigger, causing it to fire and hit her in the calf.

The woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. The gun and three other guns were taken by a family member for safekeeping.

Trash collection

YOUNGSTOWN

Effective Saturday, Waste Management will begin solid-waste collection within the city.

Collection days will remain the same, but collection times may vary. To avoid being missed, city residents are asked to place refuse at the curb the night before their scheduled collection day.

Rules of collection have not changed; a copy of the collection rules can be obtained by calling Youngstown’s Department of Public Works at 330-742-8802 or by visiting www.cityofyoungstownoh.org.

Mardi Gras benefit

A Mardis Gras-themed party will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Wean Foundation offices, 147 W. Market St., to raise money for Stop One Place Help Is Available, a nonprofit organization that helps poor people learn where to receive services. Cost for the party is $15 per person or $25 per couple. For information, call 330-393-0519.

Vienna meeting

VIENNA

Vienna Township Neighborhood Watch is sponsoring a special meeting about water problems in the township at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Mathews High School cafeteria, 4429 Warren-Sharon Road. Trumbull County commissioners, Rex Fee of Trumbull County Water and Sewer and Tom Holloway of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District will attend to answer questions.
