Salem youth troupe to present ‘Island’ musical

Salem Community Theatre’s youth troupe will present the musical “Once On This Island Jr.” for two weekends, begining Friday.

“Once On This Island Jr.” centers on a peasant girl on a tropical island, Ti Moune (played by Emily Shar), who rescues then falls in love with Daniel (Sasha Davis), a wealthy boy from the other side of the island.

Also featured among this cast of 26 are Ashlynn Kufleitner, Carter Romine, Emma Kelly, Bethany Kholos, Tori Mollenkopf, Evan Shobel and Ryan Stewart. Tierra Moore has choreographed the dance numbers.

The Caribbean-flavored music sets the tone for the theme of love’s power to triumph over prejudice and hatred. Director is Elizabeth Britton, and Allison Oyster is music director.

Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.
