division II wrestlers to watch

Korey Frost, CANFIELD

The district tournament winner in the 120-pound weight class is making his second trip to the state tournament after missing out last season. Frost (40-4) said he let the magnitude of the event get to him as a sophomore resulting in a disappointing finish. His coach, Dean Conley, expects that experience to help him this time around. “He’s been there before. That’s the biggest piece of the puzzle for him to be calm and focused. He’s had an excellent year and he’s ready — he’s mentally ready and he’s been mentally ready for the last month or two.”

Georgio Poullas, Canfield, freshman, 126 pounds (first state appearance).

Joey Baitt, Jefferson, senior, 132 pounds, 45-7 (first appearance).

C.J. Frost, CANFIELD

The 138-pound sophomore is making his state tournament debut at the same age as his older brother, Korey. When asked what would happen if little bro performed better, the elder Frost said without hesitation, “He’s not gonna finish better than me.” Although a little family friendly competition never hurt anyone, the two Frosts are each others biggest fans. “It’s actually really cool,” Korey said. “I’m proud of him and I’m proud of Georgio too.”

Daniel Hasson, Beaver Local, junior, 138 pounds, 41-1 (state qualifier in 2013).

Mason Hughes, West Branch, junior, 160 pounds, 27-6 (first appearance).
