BREAKING NEWS | YSU trustees authorize new prez search

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University trustees authorized an agreement with AGB Search today to conduct a presidential search. The firm won't charge a fee for the service.

The university is seeking a new president after Randy Dunn was tapped and accepted the presidency at Southern Illinois University. Several prominent Mahoning Valley businessmen, lawmakers and local commissioners are lobbying the trustees to name Jim Tressel, former YSU and Ohio State University head football coach, YSU's ninth president.

Dr. Sudershan Garg, trustees chairman, said trustees don't plan on appointing an interim president initially because Ikram Khawaja, provost and vice president for academic affairs, is overseas until March 15. Under the university's succession plan, the provost is second in line behind the president, with the vice president for finance and administration, at the No. 3 spot.

The vice president for finance and administration left last week for another job. Dr. Garg, however, said trustees would not be upset to see Dunn leave before his stated resignation date of Aug. 16.
