Rep. Ryan to be at White House for announcement today
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan will be at the White House at 3 p.m. today when President Barack Obama announces two new public-private manufacturing innovation institutes — one in Chicago and the other in the Detroit area.
These steps will boost advanced manufacturing, strengthen our capabilities for defense, and attract the types of high-quality jobs that a growing middle class requires, said Ryan of Howland, D-13th.
“I am excited to be joining the president at the White House for this important announcement,” he said. “I am proud that America Makes [formerly the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute,] based in Youngstown, is serving as the model for future innovation hubs that will continue the growth in good-paying advanced manufacturing jobs. The manufacturing sector is growing again.”
Obama, a Democrat, has said Youngstown’s $70 million advanced manufacturing hub — the first in the nation — as an example of how the United States can win the race for the creation of high-tech manufacturing jobs. The president has mentioned America Makes in his last two State of the Union addresses, including last month’s speech.
