Harvest for Hunger

Harvest for Hunger

YOUNGSTOWN

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, 2805 Salt Springs Road, is kicking off its 23rd annual Harvest for Hunger at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Harvest for Hunger is a food-and-funds drive conducted in March and April to help stock the food bank shelves for the spring and summer months when donations traditionally taper off, said Michael Iberis, executive director.

Individuals or organizations interested in participating can call Paige Tomlinson-Miller at 330-792-5522, ext. 11, or visit www.mahoningvalleysecondharvest.org to download a registration form.

Financial contributions also may be made at supermarket sponsor Giant Eagle by tearing off a $1, $5, or $10 coupon at the register Sunday through April 19 and at participating Sparkle Markets and Walgreens locations during March. Donations are added to the customer’s bill.

Burglary charge

NILES

Jeff L. Goldner Sr., 57, of Downs Road, Champion, was charged Sunday with burglary after the resident of a home on Deforest Road in Weathersfield Township reported Goldner took items from his ex-girlfriend’s house.

The resident said Goldner had not lived at the Deforest address since August 2013 and was supposed to pick up his half sister Sunday and take her to his Champion home, but the resident believed Goldner took tools and fishing equipment from behind a locked bedroom door.

Champion police went to Goldner’s home and found the missing items in his car. He was arraigned Monday morning in Niles Municipal Court, where he was released after posting $7,500 bond.
