Golf roundup | Saturday’s play

MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

MARANA, ARIZ.

Ernie Els has reached the semifinals of the Match Play Championship for the first time in 13 years.

The four-time major champion still hasn’t played great golf at Dove Mountain, but it was good enough to get past 20-year-old Jordan Spieth, who was clearly frustrated in losing on the 16th hole.

Graeme McDowell had a lead for the first time all week — and he wound up losing. His magical week ended on the 18th hole when he lost to Victor Dubuisson of France in a tight match.

Els next plays the Frenchman. Jason Day took out an ailing Louis Oosthuizen to reach the semifinals for the second straight year. Day next plays Rickie Fowler, who won the last two holes for a 1-up win over Jim Furyk.

LPGA THAILAND

CHONBURI, THAILAND

Swede Anna Nordqvist shot a 5-under 67 at the LPGA Thailand on Saturday for a 4-stroke lead over top-ranked Inbee Park and American Michelle Wie.

The 27th-ranked Nordqvist sprinkled her third round at the Siam Country Club with four birdies and an eagle on the 10th against a bogey on No. 5.

Leading since the first round, the 26-year-old Nordqvist has an overall 11-under 205. She is chasing her first win on the U.S. LPGA Tour since 2009.

Park shot 67 and Wie 69.

Defending champion Park, playing her first tournament of the season, birdied the opening two holes and Nos. 10-13, with a lone bogey on the eighth.
