GREEN BAY, WIS.

JJ Piccinich scored two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Youngstown Phantoms to Friday’s 7-3 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers.

Kiefer Sherwood, Zach Evancho, Trey Bradley, Conor Lemirande and Josh Melnick also scored as the Phantoms won their second consecutive game.Goaltender Sean Romeo made 23 saves. The Phantoms and Gamblers will play again tonight.

McDowell has another Match Play escape

MARANA, Ariz.

Graeme McDowell figured his luck had run out Friday at the Accenture Match Play Championship. After two remarkable rallies to even reach the third round, McDowell missed a pair of 8-foot putts to fall 2 down with two holes to play against Hunter Mahan, who had lost only four times in 18 matches at the Golf Club of Dove Mountain. McDowell won the next two holes to extend the match. He made a 20-foot par putt on the 20th hole to stay alive, and then won the next hole with a 15-foot birdie putt.

Also, Jim Furyk rallied from an early deficit to beat Harris English on the 18th hole. He next plays Rickie Fowler, who made birdie on the 18th for a 1-up win over Sergio Garcia.

WVU hires former Penn State DC Bradley

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.

West Virginia has hired former longtime Penn State assistant Tom Bradley, who was interim head coach for the Nittany Lions after Joe Paterno was fired in 2011 during the Jerry Sandusky child sexual-abuse scandal. Mountaineers coach Dana Holgorsen said Friday in statement that Bradley will be senior associate head coach and his defensive coaching position will be designated later. Bradley was defensive coordinator for Penn State from 2000-11, and became interim coach for the final four games of the 2011 season.

Top-seeded Nadal, No. 2 Ferrer into semifinals

Top-seeded Rafael Nadal reached the semifinals of the Rio Open, showing no problems with a sore back in defeating Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-1, 6-0 on Friday. No. 1-ranked Nadal, in his first tournament since losing the Australian Open final, will face fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar in the semifinals. Andjuar ripped through Tommy Robredo of Spain 6-1, 6-1. In the other semifinal, second-seeded David Ferrer will meet unseeded Alexandr Dolgopolov. Ferrer defeated Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Dolgopolov of Ukraine advanced against third-seeded Fabio Fognini 6-1, 6-1.

Bulldogs, Warriors in Monday makeup game

POLAND

The Poland boys basketball team will play host to West Branch on Monday in a makeup game. The JV game will start at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity scheduled for 7.

The move has caused a meeting for parents of spring sports athletes to be moved to Tuesday. That meeting, for parents of high school students interested in participating in spring sports, will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
