Trial on for woman who withdrew shooting plea

TIONESTA, Pa. (AP) — A woman who withdrew her earlier guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter was on trial in the fatal shooting of her husband during a domestic dispute at a northwestern Pennsylvania hunting camp.

The (Warren) Times Observer reports the trial of 59-year-old Ruth Angert, of Butler, opened Thursday and was expected to conclude today in Forest County.

State police say Angert fatally shot her 60-year-old husband Larry after the couple argued at their hunting camp in Tionesta on Nov. 17, 2012.

Forest County District Attorney Elizabeth Ziegler told the jury that the cabin didn’t show evidence of the violent struggle Angert told police occurred during the shooting.

Ziegler says Angert pulled the gun in anger before it went off, fatally wounding her husband as they struggled.

Angert’s attorney says she pulled the gun to protect herself.
