Campbell police arrest woman on drug charges

CAMPBELL — A Hubbard woman was arrested by city police Wednesday evening on multiple drug charges — including a fifth-degree felony — after police found more than a dozen pills in her car during a traffic stop.

Kelly A. Deegan, 43, of Elizabeth Street, was charged with possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. She also was cited for not having a valid driver’s license, failing to properly signal her turn, and having objects blocking her rear view mirror.

When police stopped Deegan on 16th Street shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday for the traffic violations, they immediately noticed her leaning over the center console and placing something between the seats.

Officers questioned her about the action, and she replied that she had been grabbing her drink — though she didn’t have one near her. Deegan later admitted, when asked if she had anything illegal on her or in the car, that she had some Percoset.

Police found 14 of the pills in Deegan’s pocket and in a cigarette box stuffed between the driver’s seat and the center console. They also found a pill cutter/crusher with white pill residue and a plastic pipe with white pill residue.

Deegan is set to appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Friday.
