Woman jailed, accused of failing to return video

PICKENS, S.C.

It was not a pile of late fees a South Carolina woman got when a video-store owner said she failed to return a video she rented in 2005. Instead, she spent a night in jail.

Kayla Michelle Finley, 27, of Pickens was arrested Thursday and charged with failing to return a rented video cassette, according to Pickens County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Creed Hashe.

Hashe said Finley rented the movie “Monster-in-Law” from Dalton Videos nearly a decade ago. The owner took out a warrant against Finley, who was arrested when she was at the sheriff’s office for something else and the warrant was found.

Hashe said Finley had been sent several certified letters at the time, but the woman told WHNS-TV that she never got the letters and that she will fight the charge. The video store has since closed.

Finley spent Thursday night in jail and was released Friday on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond, according to authorities. If convicted, she could face up to 30 days in jail and $500 in court fines.

Finley is scheduled to appear in court in March, and court records listed no attorney for her. Authorities did not immediately return a message Tuesday seeking more information on her case, and working phone numbers for Finley and the defunct store’s owner could not be found.

Burglary suspect arrested after leaving wallet

DALLAS

Authorities say a teenager who burglarized a Dallas police officer’s apartment, taking his service weapon and ammunition, was apprehended after he lost his wallet as he fled.

Police reports say two witnesses chased 18-year-old Adrian Jimmerson when he was seen Thursday carrying a pillowcase full of items. The suspect dropped the pillowcase as he jumped a fence, but his pants ripped and his wallet fell to the ground. A school identification card also was found. Jimmerson was arrested the next day.

He was being held Tuesday at the Dallas County jail on a charge of burglary of a habitation, with a bond of $10,000. A phone message left with his public defender, Frank Douglas, was not immediately returned.

Families celebrate Olympics at backyard sled track

MASON, Mich.

Two Michigan families are celebrating the Olympics with a massive sled track that they built into a backyard hill.

WILX-TV reports the Baker and Hines families came up with the idea for a luge track in Mason, southeast of Lansing.

The course is about 200 feet long and includes a tunnel and a rendering of the Olympic rings. Doug Hines says they used two tractors with front-end loaders to create the course. He says it took about three days to build and a few hours to cover with ice.
