Campbell police arrest three men on weapons and other charges

CAMPBELL — Three men were arrested on charges of carrying concealed weapons and obstructing official business after a concerned Tenney Avenue resident alerted police to a car with a gun pointing out of the window that was stopped in front of a house early Tuesday.

The men — Marquis A. Hudson, 25, of Ridley Avenue in Youngstown; Daniel E. Clark, 20, of Penhale Avenue in Campbell; and Alex C. Green, 28, of 10th Street in Campbell — answered to those charges in Campbell Municipal Court just hours later on Tuesday.

Carrying concealed weapons is a fourth-degree felony, while obstructing official business is a second-degree misdemeanor.

For the two charges, total bond for Hudson was set at $11,500, 10 percent cash or surety. Hudson also has a $1,000 cash-only bond for a bench warrant; he failed to appear in municipal court in December 2012 for multiple traffic charges.

Total bond for Clark was set at $5,000, 10 percent cash or surety, for the two charges.

Green was charged also with having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony, and burglary, a second-degree felony. For all four charges, bond was set at $46,500, 10 percent cash or surety.

All three men will appear again in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Feb. 28.

At about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to Tenney Avenue to follow up on the concerned citizen’s report.

When officers attempted to pull over the car, the driver turned into a 10th Street driveway and got out of the car, leaving a silver handgun with one magazine and six live rounds on the ground. The driver and two passengers then began to run through the backyards of several residences in the area.

Police also observed a black rifle on the ground near the passenger’s side door, and secured both weapons. They later found another magazine and 30 live rounds.

By following footprints left in the snow, police were able to first find Clark, who had snow on his shoes, was sweating profusely and was out of breath. He failed to comply with an officer’s verbal orders and was eventually arrested.

Soon afterward, a man — later identified as Green — exited a Sanderson Avenue residence, and asked what was going on. Police noticed snow on his shoes and that he was sweating profusely, however, and arrested him after the homeowner said she didn’t know him and that he wasn’t permitted inside the residence.

By again following footprints in the snow, police found Hudson crouched between a nearby apartment building and shrubs. He also was arrested.
