Poland man arested after fleeing from Boardman police

BOARDMAN

Boardman police arrested a Poland man early Sunday for fleeing and eluding police.

Shawn McGehee, 31, of Renwick Drive was arraigned on Tuesday morning. McGehee was also issued citations for reckless operation and operating a vehicle while impaired.

About 3 a.m. Sunday, Boardman police attempted to make a traffic stop on a Dodge Avenger. Radar caught the driver going 62 mph past the Shops at Boardman Park on U.S. Route 224, and the officer saw the vehicle strike a curb.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle on South Avenue, but the driver kept going. The driver turned right onto Matthews Road at 50 mph and did not stop until he pulled into a driveway on Renwick Drive.

He was ordered out at gunpoint, and placed in handcuffs after he wrestled with the officer. The driver had a strong odor of alcohol, according to police. The driver, identified as McGehee, refused sobriety tests.
