Hubbard man indicted

WARREN

A Hubbard man will have a hearing in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on Thursday after being indicted by a grand jury for purportedly pointing a laser at a Fox News helicopter Oct. 11 in Hubbard.

Hubbard police investigated a complaint indicating that someone pointed the laser from the area of Windemere and Meadowland drives and talked to Nicholas Vecchiarelli, 46, of Meadowland Drive.

Vecchiarelli eventually admitted he did it and turned over a laser pointer to police.

The charges are obstructing official business and interfering with the operation of an aircraft with a laser.

If convicted, he could get more than eight years in prison.

Pointing a laser at an aircraft is dangerous because it interferes with a pilot’s vision, officials have said.
