UPDATE | YSU President Dunn resignation effective Aug. 16

Youngstown State University's board of trustees and President Randy J. Dunn are emerging from behind closed doors after more than two hours. Dunn's resignation is effective Aug. 16.

"The board of trustees recognizes that the position at Southern Illinois is a unique opportunity for Dr. Dunn and his wife, Ronda, to return home to Illinois to continue their careers," said Dr. Sudershan Garg, board chairman.

"Dr. Dunn has performed exceptionally during his seven months at YSU and we wish him and Ronda well."

Meanwhile, YSU's Academic Senate worries about a leadership vacuum at the university.

Dunn's pending departure for the same position at Southern Illinois University beings to three the number of top leaders at YSU to leave. The provost plans to retire June 30 and the vice president of finance and administration plans to leave later this month.

Chet Cooper, who leads the academic senate, said the body hopes to have input in decisions regarding university academics such as if the board appoints an interim president.
