Manure-management plan workshops set in Mercer

MERCER, PA.

The Mercer County Conservation District is offering a workshop designed to help farm operators learn new regulations to write manure-management plans.

They will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 24, March 10 and March 24 at the Mercer Area Library, 110 E. Venango St. Attendees only need to register and participate in one session. A free light breakfast and lunch will be provided to all participants.

Attendees will receive a copy of the updated manure-management manual and one-on-one assistance will be available so that partricipants will leave the workshop with a completed manure-management plan for their farm.

A portion of the event will be dedicated to developing farm maps using online mapping resources such as PA OneStop. PA OneStop, developed by the Penn State Geospatial Technology Program, requires an account to create maps using the online tool. Participants in the workshop are urged to establish an account before attending the workshop by visiting www.paonestop.org.

Registration is required. Call Shawn Hedglin of the Mercer County Conservation District at 724-662-2242 to register by phone with name, address and number of people attending.

Financial support for the project is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection through the Clean Water Fund.
