ONG welcomes home 130 soldiers from Afghanistan tonight at Packard Music Hall

WARREN — The Ohio National Guard will welcome home from deployment to Afghanistan 130 soldiers from the 838th Military Police Co. during an 11:15 p.m. gathering today at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W.

Because of the unit’s late arrival from its demobilization station, a formal welcome-home ceremony will not be conducted. Soldiers will arrive at the venue on commercial buses and disembark to meet awaiting family members and friends.

In Afghanistan, the 838th provided 24-hour-a-day critical site security and force protection operations at various locations throughout the country. Its mission also included supporting detainee operations and transport, conducting more than 150 combat convoys and providing security details for civilian contractors and staff.
