Boardman looks into animal cruelty case

BOARDMAN

Boardman police investigated a cruelty to animals call on Tuesday after someone noticed two animals left in an abandoned house. The house at 111 Beachwood Drive had a dog and two cats inside. It’s believed the house has been empty for at least a month.

A police report describes “deplorable living conditions.” There was an overwhelming smell of cat urine and fecal matter. A television and the heat were on. There were several items and garbage bags strewn throughout the house, the report says.

A small terrier dog and at least two cats were found in the upstairs of the home.

The Mahoning County Humane Society was called to take the animals.

Referrals were made to health and zoning departments.
