Ohio bank to inform customers of reporting error
CINCINNATI (AP) — An Ohio-based regional bank has notified some customers that it mistakenly told credit reporting agencies they had filed for bankruptcy.
Fifth Third Bancorp says what it calls “a limited number” of customers were affected by what it blames on a systems change late last year. WCPO TV in Cincinnati reports that one of its employees and several viewers said they recently received letters from Fifth Third informing them of the error.
Fifth Third says it moved quickly to notify credit agencies about the mistake. The bank pledges in a statement to “ensure that no customer will suffer a negative impact.”
Fifth Third has banks in 12 states.
