Cincy mayor offers new plan on parking

CINCINNATI (AP) — The new Cincinnati mayor is developing a new plan to increase revenues from parking.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that John Cranley’s recommendations would expand the number of hours meters must be fed, raise rates in neighborhoods, and increase enforcement. Cranley campaigned last year against a plan to lease the city’s parking system.

The proposals would raise net parking revenues from an estimated $6.2 million in 2015 to $7.4 million by 2019. Cranley wants Cincinnati to keep control of its parking system, saying that gives the city flexibility.

Among proposals would be adding five hours for downtown meters, going from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with rates still $2 an hour. Meters in neighborhoods would rise from 50 to 75 cents an hour.
