The detective division of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the purported assault of a city employee.

The city employee told police that shortly after noon Wednesday, an attorney who is a consultant for the city assaulted her in the Struthers City Hall auditor’s office. According to the police report, the attorney used a “blunt object.”

Struthers Mayor Terry Stocker said he previously had worked with the firm the attorney is from, and that this is the first such problem that has occurred.

No charges have been filed.

Fire damages house

Damage from a fire totaled about $20,000 to a house and two vehicles in the garage at 659 Phillips Drive Southwest early Sunday.

The fire apparently started in the garage, where a 2004 Dodge Durango and 1988 Toyota MR2 sports car were destroyed, said Ken Nussle, Warren fire chief.

The 4:26 a.m. blaze was out of control by the time the resident noticed smoke and called 911. He got out safely and was not injured.

The fire caused significant damage to the garage and the interior of the home.

The Campbell school board will meet at 7 p.m. today in room 310 of Campbell Memorial High School, 280 Sixth St.

Items for animals

Animal Charity is collecting items needed for the animals for which it cares.

The item drive runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday on the first floor of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.

Items needed include dry and canned dog food, puppy food, paper towels, brooms, newspapers, dog and cat toys, plastic grocery bags, large and small garbage bags, steel cat- and dog-food dishes, cat litter and kitten food.

The item drive is called My Fluffy Valentine. Other items the shelter needs include rawhides, pens/pencils, shovels, garden hoses, office supplies, Lysol spray, air fresheners, laundry detergent, hand or dish soap, fans, copy paper, tissue, blankets, plastic sandwich bags, plastic totes with lids, towels, sponges, plastic/latex gloves, bleach, hydrogen peroxide and space heaters.

Pizza store robbed

WARREN

Police said a masked man, who indicated he had a gun in his sleeve, robbed the Little Caesar’s Restaurant, 2567 Parkman Road NW, at 6:47 p.m. Sunday.

The man was thin, about 6-feet-1, wearing a dark stocking hat, dark jean-style coat and dark, half ski-mask pulled over his face.

He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled down the Trumbull Plaza sidewalk.
