2 face drug charges after traffic stops

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested two people in separate incidents Saturday on drug charges.

About 3:48 p.m. at Gypsy Lane and Fifth Avenue, police stopped Janet Ours, 51, of Girard for failing to stop at a stop sign.

After police found a crack pipe and open bag of suspected cocaine, she was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Ours was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

About 6:55 p.m., Gregory Cordy, 45, of Hubbard was stopped at Logan Avenue and Tod Lane for failure to signal.

A crack pipe was discovered, and he was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia and taken to the jail.

I-80 ramp closed

The exit ramp from Interstate 80 west to U.S. Route 62 will remain closed through 5 p.m. Friday for emergency bridge repairs.

The Ohio Department of Transportation said it is working with a contractor to permanently repair the bridge.

The detour will continue to be I-80 west to state Route 193 to I-80 east.

Nominate a hero for courage award

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is seeking nominations for its 2014 Acts of Courage Awards.

Nominees who have saved a life must live or be employed in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties. The heroic event may have happened anywhere, but must have occurred between Jan. 1, 2013, and April 1, 2014.

It could be a person who entered a burning house to rescue a trapped family, a passer-by who pulled a drowning child to safety, or a neighbor who administered CPR to a total stranger.

The deadline for nominations is April 10.

Award recipients will be honored during a special reception and dinner hosted by the Red Cross.
