YOUNGSTOWN
Jewels of Winter, an orchid exhibit that evokes the tropics, is on display now through March 16 at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education & Visitor Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., West Side. The gardens are part of Mill Creek MetroParks.
The exhibit is accompanied by a series of programs, beginning this month, on the exotic flowers.
Here is the schedule:
Orchid Walk-About (10 a.m. to noon today, and again March 4): Dave Miller, of the Greater Akron Orchid Society, will lead a walk highlighting the main varieties of orchids displayed throughout the Davis Center. Attendees can bring an orchid to the walk to be diagnosed. Space is limited; call to register for this free program.
Orchid Clinic (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 19 and March 6): Dave Miller and Jackie Land will show how to repot an orchid. Attendees can bring any problem orchids they have and the expert will help get them back on track. All who attend will receive an orchid to repot in class and take home. Fee: $20 ($15 for Fellows members).
For more information or to register for either event, call Fellows Riverside Gardens at 330-740-7116.
