austintown

A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 Friday morning sent three people to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries and prompted a search for a missing show dog.

The driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Express van, Janice Butler of Pickerington, Ohio, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center along with her passengers, Mary Jane Szczurez of Warren and Mary McFadden of Pickerington.

Craig Rotz Jr. of Boardman was in a 2004 Chrysler Sebring and was not taken to the hospital.

According to the Canfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Rotz made an unsafe lane change and struck the van on the I-80 ramp to state Route 11 south. Both vehicles went off the roadway and the van overturned.

The van was carrying four Afghan hounds en route to a New York dog show. One of the dogs went missing, but was located in the Mineral Ridge football stadium, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV. All four are being kept temporarily at Animal Charity.

The crash is still under investigation.
