The Boardman library meeting room was a place to work on yarn “UFOs” Jan. 23.
Several women brought crochet and knitting “unfinished objects” to the library’s program, It’s All About Yarn.
It’s the first time the library offered the program, said Karen Saunders, librarian. Participants were welcome to bring any project involving yarn. Each had a chance to show what they were working on and to ask questions.
Bonnie Small brought a work-in-progress to the program because she had “cabin fever.”
“I like it,” she said. “It gets people out of the house.”
Small worked on knitting a pink baby blanket at the event. She planned to borrow a book on crocheting.
“I didn’t realize they’d have all these different books available for knitting and crocheting,” She said. “It’s kind of nice.”
Saunders filled a table prior to the start of the program with the books available. She used one to give Patty Lapp some tips.
“I knitted 50 years ago, so I’m a little rusty,” Lapp said.
She was interested in crocheting dish cloths.
Vanessa Quarles wanted to make an afghan.
She hadn’t knitted or crocheted in years, so Saunders showed her a slip stitch. It quickly started coming back to Quarles.
“Everything starts with a slip stitch,” Saunders said.
Saunders also brought an unfinished object – she crocheted the edging on a blanket she created on a kitting machine.
She also showed the group a tissue box cover made using plastic canvas and yarn.
The program was for teens and adults.
