Scholarchip dinner to be Feb. 16

Cardinal Mooney High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame Ron Stoops Scholarship Dinner will be offered at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman on Feb. 16. The buffet dinner and open bar are scheduled from 6-8 p.m. and the induction ceremony will start promptly at 8 p.m. Tickets are $75 or $600 (table of 8). Proceeds will benefit the Ron Stoops Scholarship Fund. For reservations, call 330-788-5113.

BCMS defeats BGMS Jan. 30

The Boardman Center Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team improved its season record to 8-2 by defeating Boardman Glenwood Middle School 49-19 on Jan. 30 at the BCMS gymnasium. Jenn Vivo led all scorers with 20 points. Cara Higgins and Annaliisa Cordova both scored nine points each, followed by Kaylee Sorvillo and Fantastic Tate scoring two each.

BGMS girls fall

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade basketball team lost to Boardman Center with a score of 28-24. Leading scorers for BGMS were Kaylin Burkey (12), Cate Green (6), Jenna Benko (5) and Kailee James (1). The girls are now 6-4.

The eighth-grade girls were also defeated by Center. Leading the Spartans was Cassie Stitt with nine points, Riley Zawrotuk with eight and Ashley Clark with four. The Lady Spartans are now 4-6.

BGMS tops Center

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade boys played a strong second half to beat Center for the second time this season 37-25. The boys put together a total team effort with Che Trevena leading the way with 13 points. Nick Torres added nine and Ryan Archey hit two three-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Finishing the scoring was Nikitas Missos with four points, Tim Fowler and Manny Perez each scored two, and Jason Davis added one point. The boys improved to 6-4 on the season.

The BGMS eighth-grade boys basketball team lost to Center by the score of 40-36. BGMS fell to 7-3 on the season. Brian Terlesky led the team in scoring with 10, Antonio Page had eight and Holden Lipke had seven for the Spartans. Also scoring for BGMS were Alex Cardona with five and Brad Boerio, Noah Falleti and Jarod Wilson with one basket each.

It’s winter sports season.Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a winter sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages.

We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in. You can email us at neighbors@vindy.com. You don’t have to be a writer — just send us the information and we’ll put it all together. When emailing pictures, send them as JPEG files as large as possible.

Provide caption information and where people are located from left to right, front row to back. The sports news we’re looking for ranges from high school teams down to middle school and even elementary and recreational leagues.

And not just basketball – we want wrestling, bowling, swimming, gymnastics and hockey, too.
