Amish man from Ohio gets 3-year prison term for rape of teen girl
CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — A judge said he was reluctant to sentence an 18-year-old Amish man to prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl but didn’t have a choice.
Judge Forrest W. Burt of Geauga County Common Pleas Court said he fears what will happen to Raymond F. Miller in prison because of his small stature and Amish beliefs.
The News-Herald of Willoughby reports that Judge Burt sentenced the man to the minimum three years in prison Thursday for assaulting the girl last June. Miller knew the girl and said he had sex with her after watching pornography with friends.
Miller — whose attorney described as “an extremely naive person” — apologized to the judge and said he hoped to get some treatment.
Prosecutor Christopher Joyce agreed to stand silent on the case at sentencing.
