Man jailed after spitting in face of cop, report says
YOUNGSTOWN — A man is in the Mahoning County jail after reports said he spit on a police officer in the emergency room at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Police were first called to Turning Point Counseling Center for a report of a possible deceased person and found Orin Canty, 43, very drunk, reports state. He was taken to Northside to be examined and a police officer followed because he was becoming combative.
At the hospital, Canty became more combative when he tried to smoke inside and would not allow a doctor to examine him. A police officer came over to help and Canty spit in his face, reports said.
Medical personnel put a shield on Canty’s face so he could be treated and hospital personnel helped the officer clean himself off, reports said. Canty faces charges of assault on a police officer and disorderly conduct and also has a warrant from Trumbull County for theft, reports said.
