Big Lots closes store

The Big Lots in the Belmont Plaza Shopping Center on state Route 193 closed last month, according to township Administrator Patrick Ungaro.

Ungaro said he was disappointed the store decided to leave after years in Liberty, but the township is exploring a “half-dozen other possibilities” to replace Big Lots.

Company moving chemicals to Pa.

CHARLESTON, W.VA.

Thousands of gallons of the chemical that spilled into the water supply for 300,000 West Virginians are heading to Pennsylvania.

Freedom Industries expected to move 3,500 gallons of crude MCHM from its Nitro, W.Va., facility to a coal facility in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. The Department of Environmental Protection warned that it could mean unsavory licorice smells for neighbors.

Freedom expects to move more chemicals in upcoming weeks. It’s unclear exactly where the chemicals are heading. Freedom’s parent company is owned by J. Clifford Forrest, who runs Pittsburgh-based Rosebud Mining Co.
