Black music program planned for Feb. 12
NEW CASTLE, PA.
The Lawrence County Historical Society will present The Music of America – African-American Contribution at 7 p.m. Feb.12 at the Museum, 408 North Jefferson St.
Jean Speight will present a time line on the development of black music from 1600 to 1950, including sacred music such as folk spirituals, arranged spirituals, folk gospel and gospel hymns and secular music such as work songs, field calls, protest songs, rural blues, ragtime, boogie-woogie and more.
The program will include old recordings. All LCHS programs are free and open to the public. For more information, call the society at 724 658-4022.
