Police responded to a home in the 500 block of Moore Drive on Monday evening after reports of a break-in and shots fired there.

Upon officers’ arrival at about 7 p.m. Monday, they spoke with the homeowner, who said someone had broken into her residence — and that she believed it was her son, who lives in the 500 block of 13th Street.

Police noticed a bullet hole in the wall of the living room and hallway, then found one .40-caliber round on the ground and one expended .40-caliber round on the couch.

A neighbor who had come to the residence after hearing the gunshots said he spoke to the homeowner’s son and the homeowner’s husband. They said that the gun had gone off accidentally and that everything was OK.

The homeowner added that the two had gone to her son’s 13th Street residence, where police found them visibly intoxicated and smelling of alcohol, according to the report.

The homeowner’s husband said he and his son were drinking at the Moore Street residence, when they began to play with the Glock 23 handgun. He said, too, that his son had pointed the gun at him, then took it away and fired it at the wall.

Police seized the gun, along with the expended round and several live rounds. The investigation is pending.
