Cal State VP named president of Ohio's Hiram University

HIRAM, Ohio (AP) — A West Coast university administrator has been named president of Hiram College in northeast Ohio.

Hiram trustees today announced the appointment of Lori Varlotta. She currently is senior vice president for planning, enrollment management and student affairs at California State University, Sacramento.

The 50-year-old Varlotta has been a college administrator for 29 years, including stints at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the University of San Francisco, Miami University of Ohio and the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.

In August the Pittsburgh native will succeed the retiring Tom Chema at the 1,300-student Hiram campus northeast of Akron.

Chema formerly ran the Ohio Lottery, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the Gateway corporation that developed Cleveland’s ballpark and arena.
