Youngstown health board scraps consolidation talk with Mahoning County

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown City Health Board took potential consolidation and contracting for services with the county health department off the table.

An informal poll taken at today’s meeting was unanimous that the city health department would stand alone and to end consolidation discussions that have gone on for nearly three years.

The other part of the board’s direction was to move forward with accreditation, which is a requirement by the Ohio Department of Health, said Erin Bishop, acting commissioner of the city health department.

Patricia Sweeney, commissioner of the Mahoning County District Board of Health, was not available for comment this morning, nor was Mayor John McNally, who is president of the city health board and did not attend organization’s meeting today.
