Apartment fire in Boardman causes $165 in damage

A man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital from a 3:45 p.m. fire at 6551 Lockwood Boulevard on Sunday. He was in bare feet.

He was just escaping from the basement apartment when fire crews arrived. The fire damaged his apartment and caused smoke damage to the rest of the six-plex building, Assistant Chief Don Kloes said, estimating the total loss to be $165,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
