Dorothy Day House will be the site of a day of prayer and vigil from midnight Feb. 7 to midnight Feb. 8 for victims of human trafficking. Services are open to the public. There will be a movie on the topic and speakers.

White Mass

YOUNGSTOWN

Bishop George V. Murry will be the principle celebrant and homilist for the 18th annual White Mass at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 9 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St. A reception will follow in St. Columba Hall for members of the Lourdes Guild. The annual White Mass is sponsored by the Lourdes Guild, an association of Catholic physicians and dentists of the Diocese of Youngstown.

The Lourdes Guild assists the diocesan Church in upholding and communicating Catholic medical ethics to the medical profession and throughout the wider culture. For reservations or information, visit www.doy.org or call 330-744-8451.

Budget seminar

Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., will sponsor the annual Believers’ Budget Seminar from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 8. For reservations, call church at 330-743-5084. There is a $10 donation payable at the door. A light breakfast will be served. June Johnson, Home Savings and Loan, will be the facilitator and asks that participants have a copy of their credit report. The Rev. James C. Bowie is pastor and Rose Carter, Christian education director.

Annual meeting

YOUNGSTOWN

New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will conduct its 41st annual dinner meeting at 3 p.m. Feb. 9 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard. Dinner reservations are $15 and can be made by calling the church office at 330-747-2125 by Monday.

The program will pay tribute to the late Rev. Lonnie K.A. Simon, who pastored the church for 33 years, retiring in 1995. He was pastor emeritus. The church also will mark 10 years in the new church edifice. The Rev. Bruce McLauren of Cleveland will be the guest speaker. The church adopted its 2014 budget in the amount of $562,321. The 2014 elected officers are Michael Lyons, deacon board chairman; Ike Henry, general treasurer; Julius Livas, trustee board chairman; Reuben Gordon Sr., benevolent treasurer; Juanita Davis, church clerk; Mary Ann Mitchell, deaconess board chairwoman; Lois York, church school superintendent; and Michel Lyons, Christian education director. New trustees elected were Harold E. Clinkscale, Jerrald A. Fordham, Victoria Morris and Paulett Shields. The Rev. Kenneth L. Simon is pastor and the Rev. Robin Woodberry, assistant.

Prayer breakfast

YOUNGSTOWN

The Men’s Ministry of the Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., will sponsor its annual Men of Valor prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Feb. 15. Guest pastor will be Bishop Jesse Gavin of Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church in Erie, Pa. Tickets are $10; call the church office at 330-746-1217. Deadline is Feb. 7. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Boy Scout Sunday

HERMITAGE, PA.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., will celebrate Boy Scout Sunday on Feb. 9 gto recognize Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers, Venturing Scouts, leaders, alumni and Scouting families. Coffee and donuts will be served at 10:30 a.m. with the worship service at 11.

The Custaloga Town Scout Camp chaplain, the Rev. David Williamson, will present free patches to Scouts and leaders in uniform.
