Crooks make off with $2,000 in gift cards

BOARDMAN — Township police are investigating a case of theft in which someone stole $2,000 worth of Visa gift cards from a convenience store.

An employee at Speedway, 649 East Midlothian Blvd., reported to police that two male suspects entered the store in November and each selected five $200 Visa gift cards.

The men then paid for the gift cards with MasterCard credit cards, according to a police report.

A district manager later told the employee that the credit cards were Canadian and that the transactions failed, leaving the store $2,000 short.

The manager also reported that five other Speedways were victims of similar incidents.

Police have video surveillance of the theft.
